Children are very welcome at all our church services.
During our 10am communion service pre-school and primary aged children are invited to join our Children’s Church for activities, stories and learning. There is a 3-5 age group and a 6+ group. Both groups leave near the beginning of the service and come back into church in time for communion. During the notices near the end of the service the children come to the front to share what they have benn thinking about with the congregation.
Parents who want to keep their children with them in church are welcome to do so and we have ‘pew bags’ with quiet toys and books for them.
There is a children’s area that the youngest children can use with their parents if they are feeling restless during the service.
Our family communion on the first Sunday of the month is a shorter service and children remain in church. Our older children take part in the service, reading and leading the prayers and there is an all age talk rather than a sermon.
We have a group of young servers who assist at the 10am Family service and on other special occasions.
At St John’s we welcome children to receive communion before they are confirmed. There is a short preparation course.
